WinXP Client Setup.
XP is nearly identical to W2K when it comes to setting up your network, but it has some small changes and additional features.

To setup your client ID and Workgroup, open Control Panel and double click System. |

Type in the Computer Description,
then click on change to add your Workgroup, this can be anything you like,
but recommended that you keep both/all PC's as the same Workgroup.
If you want to let XP do all the settings click on the Network ID button. |

Type in the Workgroup name.

Double click on the Network Connections icon, then double click the Local Area Connection icon. |

Click on the Properties button.

If you don't have any of the items shown,
then install them, then select TCP/IP and click Properties.

Tick Obtain IP address and Obtain DNS server
as shown, then click Advanced.

Add the gateway IP address of your server
(normally 192.168.0.1), then select the DNS tab.

Tick the boxes as shown and add your DNS
suffix, can be found here
, you can also add *yourstate.optushome.com.au.
* add yourstate, i.e. nsw, vic or qld

Tick boxes as shown and click Ok . You should now be able to access mail and news from your mail client by setting it up as shown here.

Just click next and the wizard will ask you
a few questions and set up your network for you .

If you have the need, e.g. , LAN parties,
laptop used on a work or Uni LAN, you can now have two separate network
settings setups on your machine. As long as you know all the info, just enter it in the required fields and then your machine will work with no changes needed on two separate LAN's.
